Patients with heart failure can increase their survival rate by using their own stem cells. German researchers have found that people with chronic heart conditions who are given injections of their own bone marrow stem cells have a better chance of living longer. The benefits of the cell therapy occurred within three months and continued for five years. This is one of the largest studies ever done using stem cells to treat heart conditions. Scientists are excited about this study because the long term benefits are encouraging.
