Breast cancer and alcohol consumption

By: Dr. Steve Salvatore, Co-Owner of The Academy

Drinking even just a moderate amount of alcohol can boost the risk of breast cancer coming back and those who are postmenopausal or overweight are at the greatest risk.  A new study finds that half of women who had earlier stages of breast cancer and were considered drinkers, either showed signs of breast cancer recurrence or died from a variety of health complications.  So remember…moderation is key.  Drinking moderate amounts of alcohol – about 3-4 per week – was NOT linked to the increased risk of death, and in fact, may lower the risk of dying from a non-breast cancer related health problem.
