There has been a reported resurgence of bed bugs…yuck! It has people across the US taking desperate measures with some relying on dangerous outdoor pesticides and fly by night exterminators. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is warning consumers not to use outdoor chemicals in the home. They can harm the central nervous system and irritate the eyes and skin. Some even cause cancer. The EPA has pledged to find new, potent chemicals to kill the bedbugs that are safe. Experts warn that some hardware products – bug bombs, cedar oil and other natural oils, which claim to be lethal to the pests – really just cause them to scatter out of sight and hide in cracks in walls and floors.
