There are a number of reasons why older people are sensitive to cold. As we age our metabolism slows down and we have diminished response to cold. For instance, blood vessels on the surface of our skin usually constrict when exposed to cold, but in older people that reflex is diminished. We’re also less able to raise our metabolism when exposed to cold. Medications can also affect the way our body reacts to cold. Having said that, if you’re elderly and feeling cold even when its warm outside, this is another issue and should be evaluated by a doctor.
