A new report suggests that nearly half of the calories that kids consume each day are empty calories from junk food. The report from the National Cancer Institute says that children between the ages of 2 to 18 are consuming the unhealthiest types of calories. The main culprits? Soda, sugary fruit drinks, cakes, cookies, while milk and pizza.
This summer, the senate passed a 4.5 billion dollar plan to help improve the quality of school lunches and vending machines. The bill is now before the House of Representatives.
Experts say that one of the reasons that teens are attracted to junk food I that it’s cheap and tasty; and the kids would rather spend their cash on clothes, shoes and electronics.
