Get smarter about antibiotics!

By: Dr. Steve Salvatore, Co-Owner of The Academy

We all need to get smarter about antibiotics.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention contend that half of the antibiotics prescribed today are completely unnecessary and that its causing a rise in “superbugs” – pesky bacteria that do not respond to drugs.  The CDC says that the “stakes are high.”  They’re seeing resistance of common infections like e. coli, which is on its way to becoming untreatable.  The Agency recommends not pressuring your physician for antibiotics if you have a cold or flu; and if you are given an antibiotic, take it exactly as prescribed.
