Babies & their milestones – walking!

By: Dr. Steve Salvatore, Co-Owner of The Academy

Wondering how old your baby should be when he/she starts walking?  Learning to walk is a combination of strength, confidence and balance.  Most babies start waling between 9-12 months of age, but this is just an average.  Kids whose feet toe in tend to walk sooner than those who toe out because their balance is better.

If your child is older than the average age for walking, don’t stress too much about reaching this milestone just yet.  Many perfectly normal children don’t walk until they’re 15 or even 17 months old.  Walking is just one of the many milestones that your pediatrician checks for at each visit.  Remember, this is just a range.   Soon enough your baby will have you running all over the place, and then you might wish they were still crawling!
