Increased risks of second hand smoke around children

By:  Dr. Steve Salvatore, Co-Owner of The Academy

Health tip: Do not smoke around children.  Second hand smoke is harmful for everyone but infants and children are especially vulnerable because their bodies are still growing and developing.  In fact, children exposed to second hand smoke have higher levels of Cotinine, a marker for second hand smoke in their blood stream that’s twice as high as non-smoking adults!  There are numerous studies demonstrating the negative health affects of second hand smoke on kids.  They have an increased risk of asthma, ear infections and respiratory problems….just to name a few.
